How we check firms
This page lists each check we've done on a firm before passing it any enquiries: the date, what we saw, and where we saw it. A check tells you what was true on that date. It isn't a promise about the firm's work.
We haven't named a firm for this area on the site yet. When we pass on an enquiry, we email you the firm's name first.
Checks log
No checks have been done yet. Before any enquiry is passed to a firm, each check will be listed here with its date, what we saw and where we saw it.
What we don't check
- The quality of the work. We don't inspect jobs or judge workmanship.
- Prices. We don't check whether a quote is fair or good value.
- Insurance details, such as the amount of cover or what the policy covers, unless the log above says we saw the certificate. Even then, we only know it was in date on the day we checked.
- Qualifications, memberships or trade registrations, unless the log above lists them with a date and source.
- How the firm behaves after the date of a check. Things can change, so ask your own questions too.
- Staff or subcontractors the firm might send.
- Whether the firm has time to take on your job, or how quickly it will reply.
- Whether the job needs any permissions or approvals. That's for you and the firm to confirm.
If something goes wrong
If you have a problem with a firm we passed your enquiry to, please tell us as well as the firm. We'll look into it and may stop passing enquiries to that firm. If you're unhappy with us, contact us using the details on this site.
